Hey everyone, happy Saturday! It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend and I have a lot of fun planned!
I also have some good news and bad news. I’ll start with the good news first. The good news is I’m spending the weekend with one of my best friends that I haven’t seen since January!
I’ve been thinking about this post for a while now, wondering whether or not I should write it. It’s pretty personal, embarassing, and not something I’m happy to mention on the internet for anyone to read, but my diet is about to get pretty weird for the next week days and I figure it deserves an explanation.
So here goes. On Tuesday I am getting a colonoscopy. Yes, I am only 20 and I am getting a colonoscopy. I tested negative for Celiac’s disease and the gene for Crohn’s disease, and I have been told it may be IBS and a colonoscopy is the only way to rule out other problems. I don’t want to reveal TMI, but basically I have been having digestional problems with major bloating (I could seriously pass for 3 or 4 months pregnant).
I like to think of myself as a generally healthy person; I eat a pretty healthy diet full of fiber and nutrients, and okay I probably don’t work out as much as I should, but that shouldn’t be causing such problems so early in my life. My preparation starts today, and I have to eat a low fiber diet until Monday when it’s liquid only.
So yesterday, I ate like there was no fiber tomorrow (because there’s not).
After my hike, I was starving. I chowed down on an egg and cheese sandwich on flaxseed bread with avocado and tomatoes, and grapes on the side! I also munched on some baby carrots.
Lunch was late so I didn’t eat again until dinner, where my mom and I experimented with cooking kale.
She ended up steaming the kale on the stove, and I topped it with lemon juice and pepper for a little bit more flavor. I also ate some flaxseed tempeh, which was good but a little bland.
I also had a delicious salad on the side, topped with broccoli, tomatoes, chick peas, feta cheese, and avocado! One of my favorite meals at home.
Today I have to say goodbye to nuts and nut butter, oatmeal, fruits and vegetables with high fiber, legumes, and whole grain bread. Honestly I don’t even know what to eat! Dietetic’s major problems..
Have a great Saturday!

Good luck with the colonoscopy. I have been having similar symptoms (why I’m working with a doctor to test for food allergies or sensitivities) and it sucks. We’re way too young to feel disgusting and uncomfortable all of the time.
I hope its nothing serious and something that can be easily fixed/eliminated/reduced to get you back to feeling normal!
Thank you! I hope it’s nothing serious too, which I think is the case. I totally agree that if it ever has to happen, it shouldn’t happen until we’re much older!
Good luck with the colonoscopy. I had one done a couple of months ago and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I know how frustrating it can be with know what foods you can and can’t eat. I’m still in the process of trying to figure it all out and to get out of being in pain. It’s hard. Best of luck to you
It is definitely frustrating. Thank you!
