In the beginning of the summer, I made myself some healthy goals for the next few months. While the goals themselves are good (drink more water, eat more produce, exercise), the idea behind the goals was weight loss. I’ve been home for a little over a month now and so far, I have not lost any weight. I’m eating much better than I was at school as far as nutrition and I’m definitely more active. Lately I’ve been finding this to be discouraging because for the past two summers in a row, I have lost about 10 pounds by the time the fall semester starts. The numbers on the scale do matter to an extent, but I think I have found numbers that matter much more.
(Being able to lift heavier weights)
(Walking farther)
(Being able to run for a longer period of time)
(Being able to do one more sit up)
Yesterday morning I decided to try out the strawberry jam I made on Sunday. I put a scoop in my oatmeal for a breakfast of PB&J oats!
I had a slow day at work today so when I got home, I had some energy to go for a bike ride with my mom.
But first, we ate a smorgasbord of leftovers for dinner!
Annie’s white cheddar mac and cheese, quinoa, asparagus, and corn and black bean salsa.
Along with a salad.
Our bike ride ended up being about 40 minutes, and I definitely felt it in my legs.
I haven’t been on a bike in a long, long time! Even the little hills hurt.
Our road happens to be just about 1 mile long, so we went up and down it a few times. We wanted to stay close to home because I had been having tire problems.
While my mom was pedaling ahead of me, I just kept thinking about the scene in the Wizard of Oz when the wicked witch is biking through the tornado
Enjoy your Tuesday

good for you for staying positive. Numbers can be deceiving and honestly don’t display ‘health’. I think finding a place where your body is happy, energized and rested is best! Good luck!
Thank you! I totally agree with you about the numbers and finding a healthy place
i am so glad i’m back into riding my bike
its so nice to enjoy nature in this way, even when you’re not that outdoorsy of a person like myself. and unlike running, i can go farther faster and it makes me feel proud of how mobile i am without damaging the environment!
I feel the same! Biking is a great way to enjoy the outdoors for a few hours.
I like all the quotes– focusing on the positives rather than whatever number a scale says…which is sooo healthy and motivating!
Definitely so true!
I just came across your blog and hope you don’t mind me commenting.
I love this post! I really think we, as women, focus way too much on the number on the scale, instead of the progress that is happening right before our eyes. I stopped weighing myself and started focusing on my performance and on how my body looks and it has made all the difference. Again, nice post and best of luck!
I love comments! They keep the blog going
Good for you for being able to actually stop using the scale!
Love bike riding, but havn’t taken mine out for a while.. so thanks for the inspiration
And as for the numbers, for me, being healthy is about that feeling of inner strength inside of you, where you feel positive, fit and stronger that you were the day before.. In todays society it is hard to ignore those numbers, but I find focussing on how my body and mind relate to eachother is way more motivating and confidence-boosting. Thanks for sharing, great post!
You’re welcome I’m glad you liked it! Good for you for being able to focus on your body and mind
You’re so right about those numbers
It’s tough not to focus on the ones that make you feel bad sometimes. x
It’s true! The scale seems to represent so much self worth, even though it shouldn’t.
Even though that was a dinner of leftovers – everything looked delicious! I’ve never tried Anne’s Mac & Cheese – I’ll have to get some the next time I’m at the store
BTW – I really like your blog, just stumbled across it
Thank you so much
Annie’s mac and cheese is very good! It’s natural too.
