It’s Friday!!!!!!! Not that you didn’t already know that Friday also means it’s time for some fun facts! This time, I put together some pretty cool facts about food. Enjoy!
Fun fact 1) Almonds are a member of the peach family. It is part of the genus Prunus and classified in the subgenus Amygalus, along with the peach! (source)
Fun fact 2) Ripe cranberries bounce like a rubber ball (source). I did not know that, but now I really want to try it out!
Fun fact 3) One of the main ingredients in Worcestershire sauce is anchovies (source). Fun fact 3.5- I’m never eating Worcestershire sauce again. FYI- Caesar dressing contains anchovies as well so if you are vegetarian, watch out!
Fun fact 4) Pretzels signifies prayer. According to ancient folklore, children who knew their prayers were given pretzels because pretzels represent arms folded across the chest in prayer (source).
Fun fact 5) 16 billion jelly beans are made for Easter each year. These jelly beans could circle the globe nearly 3 times if stacked end to end! (source).
Fun fact 6) Ketchup was once sold as medicine. In the 1830′s to be exact! (source)
Fun fact 7) To ripen a pineapple faster, stand it upside down! (source)
Fun fact 8) Arachibutyrophobia: fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. (source)
Fun fact 9) Peanuts can be used as a component to make dynamite (source). This explains why some people have arachibutyrophobia!
